New Chair and Trustees join our Board

Change Mental Health’s Board of Trustees has been significantly bolstered with a new Chair of the Board and three new Trustees.
Alan Clarke becomes Change Mental Health’s new Chair of the Board – replacing Greg May, who has been at the helm since June 2022 – bringing over two decades of experience leading organisations within the public, private and third sector. Alan completes his term as Chair of the Scottish Library & Information Council (SLIC) this year. He previously chaired charity recording service Cue and Review, and is a former Chief Executive of Scottish Bakers and Quality Meat Scotland.
The Board is further strengthened with three new Trustee recruits: Jackie Mackenzie, Jo Anderson and Susan Burgess. The trio join from current and previous senior roles, and have a commitment to ensuring that Change Mental Health meets its mission of delivering the transformational support people need, when they need it and in ways that work for them.
Jackie Mackenzie has been Care Inspectorate’s Executive Director of Corporate Services, bringing extensive leadership, strategic management and governance experience across both public and private sectors. A Chartered Accountant, Jackie has significant expertise in financial management, resource planning and organisational change.
Jo Anderson has spent the last three decades working in the third sector, including 15 years in senior leadership roles. Having begun her career in fundraising, Jo was previously at Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) before taking over as Director at MS Society Scotland in March 2025.
Susan Burgess heads up Audit Scotland’s HR department, having oversight for the development of people, wellbeing and equality strategies. With experience gained across both the private and, more lately, the public sector, Susan brings strong experience in people management, employee relations, strategy development and policy design.

Alan Clarke, Chair of the Board at Change Mental Health, said:
“I am delighted to be appointed as Change Mental Health’s new Chair of the Board, especially at a time when there is a growing and sustained demand for mental health services.
“I was drawn to the charity’s strategic ambition to innovate, influence and inspire change through the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based support that brings meaningful impact to over 11,000 people every year.
“Not only do I get to join at a very exciting time for the charity, but I am thrilled that three new Trustees also commence their journey with Change Mental Health in Jackie Mackenzie, Jo Anderson and Susan Burgess.”
Nick Ward, CEO at Change Mental Health, said:
“It’s brilliant to welcome Alan Clarke as Change Mental Health’s new Chair, alongside Jackie, Jo and Susan, who all come from a broad range of experience and backgrounds to bolster our Board.
“Their appointments to our Board mark a great new chapter in Change Mental Health’s journey as we head into our next strategic period with the planned launch of our new strategic framework this summer.
“I want to put on record our thanks to Greg May who has overseen the charity through a huge period of growth, where we now support over 11,000 people a year across Scotland. Greg’s leadership and support have been integral in our development and we wish him the very best in his next endeavour.”
