Course information

about the course

Suicide is never an easy subject to talk about, but having the right conversation at the right time can make a difference. Our session, Let’s Talk About Suicide, offers a safe, supportive space to explore how we can respond to suicide with time, space and compassion: three powerful tools that can help someone feel seen, heard and less alone.

This session provides a grounding in the realities of suicide, including key risk factors, warning signs and the journey that can lead to suicidal thoughts. You’ll learn how stigma, especially in the workplace, can silence people who are struggling, and what we can all do to break that silence with empathy and understanding.

We’ll guide you through how to have sensitive, supportive conversations with those who may be at risk, along with how to approach someone bereaved by suicide with care and compassion. Just as importantly, we’ll explore the limits of your role and how to connect people with the right support when needed.

This session is for anyone who wants to be better prepared to support others, whether at work, at home or in the wider community. It’s also a good precursor to further training, such as ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training), offering a foundation of knowledge and confidence to build on.
