About the role

Our Dumfries and Galloway community- based hubs are in Dumfries, Annan, Castle Douglas, Newton Stewart and Stranraer. We are looking for a Mental Health & Wellbeing Practitioner to join our community-based services in Dumfries and Annan.

You will deliver high-quality, non-clinical, person-centred support that improves mental health and wellbeing, reduces isolation, and builds knowledge, skills, resilience and confidence for people accessing the Hub. As a Practitioner, you will take a primary role in ensuring the efficient and effective daily running of the Hub, providing a safe, welcoming and supportive environment where people feel believed, respected and heard.

You will work directly with people through a mix of one-to-one support, group activities and community engagement, helping individuals identify achievable goals, develop personal plans and build practical strategies to support their mental health and wellbeing. This role will help create a welcoming and inclusive environment, encourage peer and community connections, and work with local organisations and services to make sure people can access the right support and opportunities.

Criteria

  • Experience facilitating groups, peer-support activities or community-based sessions.
  • Experience providing structured 1:1 support and contributing to personal or outcome-focused plans.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build positive, professional relationships.
  • Ability to remain calm, respectful, and professional when responding to challenging behaviour.
  • Ability to manage your own workload and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Commitment to trauma-informed, person-centred, strengths-based and recovery-focused practice.
  • Understanding of risk assessment and safe decision-making.
  • SVQ Level 2 Social Services and Healthcare (Adults) or willingness to work towards this if required.
  • Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) registration, or willingness to register if required.
  • Good digital and IT skills, including maintaining accurate and confidential records.

We are committed to exploring flexible working opportunities which benefit the individual and the charity and are a “Happy to Talk Flexible” employer. The role is typically worked across weekdays between 9am and 5pm, with occasional evening or weekend working depending on service needs.

If you are passionate about enabling Change Mental Health to deliver a valuable service to the Scottish community and feel your profile matches this role’s criteria, then we want to hear from you!
