with Change Mental Health
Volunteers are an important part of the work we do in delivering support across Scotland. Are you passionate about mental health and mental illness, or have lived experience of the issues people we support face? We want to hear from you!
You can get involved as a volunteer in so many ways, whether that’s helping within our services, at a Change Mental Health event or volunteering as part of the organisation you work for.
the impact you can create
As a Change Mental Health volunteer, you will be a supporting a vital cause in fighting for a future where no one faces mental illness alone. You will help us deliver support to more people across Scotland.
We provide opportunities that are fulfilling, meaningful and offer personal development to build skills and experience. All volunteers receive an induction and training on the import aspects of the volunteering role. Our aim is to be flexible and agree on a commitment which suits your needs and those of the charity.
There are so many ways in which you can get involved:
- Get involved at any of our events across the country taking place throughout the year.
- Spend a few hours week helping out of our services
- Perhaps you want to complete some corporate volunteering?
In whichever way you’re looking to help out, we would love to hear from you!
“I think any charity would benefit from having service users volunteer. We want to give back and first-hand understand what it’s like for people. But I also recommend volunteering if you’re passionate about helping people. It’s great seeing the people that come in nervous on their first visit seem full of confidence a few weeks later. It’s a nice feeling. A win-win because they feel better, and you do too.
“The little things, like the kindness people show each other, make a big difference.”
how you can volunteer
Peer support is an important part of our work. As a Peer Support Volunteer, you will work with Change Mental Health staff to deliver ongoing emotional and practical one-to-one support to people we access our services.
Volunteers will contribute to an environment where people are not stigmatised while enhance their quality of life. You will bring lived experience and empathy to meet the needs of people we support, along with a passion for our cause.
Staff members will help you and people you are supporting with achieving positive outcomes. If you think you’d be a good fit, a member of our team will have a meeting to discuss what you’d like to achieve as a Peer Support Volunteer along with your suitability for the role.
Our resource centres and services are based in communities and you can help with general admin to helping service users.
Every contribution is valuable. We look for volunteer who can bring skills or experience to help enhance the person-centred support that we offer. If your skills and experience align, we’d love to hear how you think you would contribute!
These services are based in Dumfries & Galloway, Edinburgh, Fife and Tayside and you will work alongside a great team at one of these sites.
We host many fundraising events every year. Volunteers help with the running of these events, from being at the participant registration stand to encouraging and collecting donations. Having that valuable pair of hands at an event or at a stall is really useful to us!
No experience is required and our Fundraising team will be on hand to guide you through.
You might work for an organisation looking to support a vital cause within working hours or perhaps outwith. Gather your business or come along on your own – we’re appreciative of all corporate volunteers!
Activities can include tidying gardens at our services, painting rooms, supporting the delivery of fundraising events or doing skill exchanges.
Check out your workplace volunteering policy to see if this is something you can get involved with!
You might be a keen professional offering time to teach our staff specific skills and share knowledge. For example, you might work in IT and look to help our Operations team with streamlining an IT related process.
We’ll have an initial conversation with you about your professional skillset before putting you in touch with the relevant Change Mental Health team!
