Tayside

Change Mental Health works closely with the Tayside community to provide early information and support to people who require help with their mental health needs

We have a large footprint in Tayside: working closely with the community to provide early information and support to people who require help with their mental health needs.

Change Mental Health promotes resilience and recovery, supporting people to integrate into their local community across Tayside.

How do we support people in Tayside?
  • Develop strategies for carers by providing emotional support on a one-to-one basis from Perth up to Angus
  • Help young people transition into adult services
  • Support those who experience psychosis and schizophrenia, who hear voices and have sensory disturbances, to take the next step of their journey
  • Enable people to move forward with their lives who face the stresses of everyday life
  • Raise awareness of mental health in rural areas by fighting stigma and ensuring that nobody is left behind.

We run Carer Support, Resilience and Hearing Voices in Tayside. Our services in Tayside collaborate together and with our National services, such as Mental Health and Money Advice, to ensure we are resourceful, keep support simple and place the individual at the heart of what we do. Our approach focuses on your circumstance and we welcome you into a safe, non-judgemental space where you can be open.

Lived experience is at the heart of what we do and we have a commitment to person-centred approaches

Our role is to offer guidance, information and ranges of support, from emotional support to complex issues such as housing, finances, employment and more. We also offer group sessions, enabling you to socialise and meet new people, learn a skill, or undertake peer support.

We work in and build partnerships with others, referring you to the most appropriate organisation best placed to help you with specific issues. Change Mental Health work with you to help achieve your realistic desired goals and with other organisations to ensure that the support you receive is relevant to the support you need. We are keen to signpost and support you in moving you onto the next step of your journey once you feel comfortable to make that leap.

It’s our goal to make sure you are not facing life’s difficulties alone, especially when poor mental health and mental illness makes it a much bigger task.

It’s like a lifeline. You know every week there’s going to be a phone call and you can tell them exactly what’s wrong. You know if there’s a problem or if you’re in trouble, you can just ring them – which has proved to be extremely helpful in a lot of ways. It’s the bedside manner, they just know. They do stuff off their own backs and they do care. It’s like having a friend as well as somebody to support you.”
