with Change Mental Health

Volunteers are an important part of the work we do in delivering support across Scotland. Are you passionate about mental health and mental illness, or have lived experience of the issues people we support face? We want to hear from you!

You can get involved as a volunteer in so many ways, whether that’s helping within our services, at a Change Mental Health event or volunteering as part of the organisation you work for.

the impact you can create

As a Change Mental Health volunteer, you will be a supporting a vital cause in fighting for a future where no one faces mental illness alone. You will help us deliver support to more people across Scotland.

We provide opportunities that are fulfilling, meaningful and offer personal development to build skills and experience. All volunteers receive an induction and training on the import aspects of the volunteering role. Our aim is to be flexible and agree on a commitment which suits your needs and those of the charity.

There are so many ways in which you can get involved:

  • Get involved at any of our events across the country taking place throughout the year.
  • Spend a few hours week helping out of our services
  • Perhaps you want to complete some corporate volunteering?

In whichever way you’re looking to help out, we would love to hear from you!

“I think any charity would benefit from having service users volunteer. We want to give back and first-hand understand what it’s like for people. But I also recommend volunteering if you’re passionate about helping people. It’s great seeing the people that come in nervous on their first visit seem full of confidence a few weeks later. It’s a nice feeling. A win-win because they feel better, and you do too.

“The little things, like the kindness people show each other, make a big difference.”

Events

Help to facilitate and run group activities aimed at developing skills, promoting well-being for people experiencing mental health challenges and that are fun and engaging. You will create a supportive and inclusive environment that encourages participation and personal growth.

Volunteers will contribute to an environment where people are not stigmatised and can enhance their quality of life. You will bring experience and empathy to meet the needs of people we support, along with a passion for our mission to ensure that no one need to face mental illness alone. Members of our staff team will support you to develop supportive sessions that achieving positive outcomes.

Every contribution is valuable. We look for volunteers who can bring skills or experience to help enhance the person-centred support that we offer. If your skills and experience align, we’d love to hear how you think you would contribute!

These services are based in Dumfries & Galloway, Edinburgh, Fife and Tayside and you will work alongside a great team at one of these sites.

We are looking for dedicated volunteers to support our teams across Scotland to help promote our services and support the running of Change Mental Health stalls at public events. Your role as an event volunteer will help us to raise crucial funding, build community connections, and raise awareness of our work across Scotland. Event volunteers will be provided with training and supported by our Fundraising team.

Awareness-raising volunteering is a fantastic way to support Change Mental Health when you require flexibility. This volunteering role suits people looking for opportunities that are flexible, low-commitment, and which don’t require much training.

We are looking to recruit volunteers who would like to occasionally support Change Mental Health by promoting Change Mental Health activities. This may include promoting certain events by putting posters up in your local community, dropping off support flyers to your local supermarket, or engaging with our social media posts.

You might be a keen professional offering time to teach our staff specific skills and share knowledge. For example, you might work in IT and look to help our Operations team with streamlining an IT related process.

We’ll have an initial conversation with you about your professional skillset before putting you in touch with the relevant Change Mental Health team!

We are hugely appreciative of every corporate volunteer who chooses to support us! Corporate volunteering often involves either a group or an individual arranging a volunteering opportunity to take place within their working hours. Activities that are often carried out by corporate volunteers include tidying gardens at our resource centres, painting rooms, supporting the delivery of fundraising events, and skill exchanges.
